The Black Man's Health Festival

June 1 – June 30, 2024

The Black Man’s Health Festival was created to celebrate and uplift Black men, while providing information and access to much needed resources that can help improve their physical and mental health outcomes. The one day celebration will include yoga, conversations with medical and holistic practitioners, a wellness lounge, food demos and entertainment that the entire family can enjoy. The entire month of June will be dedicated to a series of local popups focused on men’s health and wellness.

Our Mission

To serve communities of color, particularly Black men and make them more aware of their bodies, especially as it pertains to physical and mental health issues. Our goal is to encourage Black men to have open and honest conversations with their healthcare providers, friends, and families if something in their body doesn’t feel right and in turn empower them to become leaders in transforming the health of their respective communities.

Heart, Body & soul

Our Goals

  • To engage Black men and inspire them to take action and see a health care provider when something in their body doesn’t feel right.
  • Normalize open and honest conversations about physical and mental health issues.
  • Encourage Black men to select a primary care physician and get annual check-ups.
  • Host quarterly cooking demos teaching men to prepare healthy and affordable meals.
  • Gather data on hurdles faced when seeking healthcare to ensure better health outcomes in underserved communities.
  • Host frequent health screenings and health talks with various doctors and hospitals in underserved communities to reduce the number of disease related deaths.
  • Work with other organizations (hospitals, nonprofits, churches, fraternities, etc.) to ensure effective outreach to underserved communities is achieved and to ensure quality care is attained by those in need.

Donate today to support our year-round programs to provide education, screenings and access to resources for Black men in underserved communities.

What we do

Available Resources

Physical wellness

Through our network of community partners, we organize local wellness events, including yoga, walking, cycling, food demonstrations and conversations with doctors and nutritionists to help Black men achieve better health outcomes.

mental & emotional wellness

Our organization produces and hosts a variety of local events aimed at providing access to a number of mental and emotional wellness programs. We continue to establish partnerships with local hospitals, city agencies, community leaders and other nonprofits to ensure improved access for Black men, particularly those in need.

inspirational stories

While educating our community is important, we also believe strongly in telling stories of real people, who have overcome countless obstacles to achieve better mental and physical health. Through our blog, social media and local partners, we share those inspirational stories to help others improve their lives.

online & In-person events

Heart, Body & Soul, Inc. (HBS), organizes events throughout the year, including The Black Man’s Health Festival, Ask The Doctor, Walk & Talk, Ride for Black Men’s Health and more to engage Black men and inspire them to make the necessary changes to improve their mental and physical health.

Get Involved

Black men continue to be at an increased risk for heart disease, colon cancer, lung cancer, obesity, diabetes and hypertension. We know that increasing access to quality primary care will mitigate avoidable hospitalizations and premature death. Whether you’re an individual or an organization you can join us on one or all of our initiatives to improve physical and mental health outcomes among Black men and ensure better access to quality care and resources.
